Qflix - Another Revenue Avenue

Presenter:

Simon James, Sonic Solutions

Abstract:

Disc manufacturers have been looking for a cost-effective method of on-demand digital content delivery. Qflix offers that solution with technology that allows manufacturers to manage custom and short-run orders. This session will show how Qflix and their partners can help your business implement a complete solution with systems and standards for preparation and duplication of content-protected short-run titles as well as alternative methods of electronic content delivery.

11:20 am

 On-Demand customised video

Presenter:

Franco Leoni  on behalf of Discs-on-Demand Pty Ltd Australia

Philip Hall of DVD on Demand Ltd UK

Abstract:

The TV program that you missed yesterday could be in your postbox tomorrow, is a practical solution and an extension of the Qflix model, applied to Catch-up TV, but concentrating on obtaining content from broadcasts. Due to the limited amount of major studios content currently available, we will describe the systems and technology to take local broadcast material and supply it on demand on MPEG-2 DVD to viewers. Discs-on-Demand Pty Ltd systems capture video from live TV, convert and index it automatically, and then allow viewers to order up to two hours of MPEG-2 quality video at low cost  to be in the post the next day.

DVD on Demand gives the customer the power to choose what they want on their discs rather than being stuck with someone else’s preferences – as an example, from the web or a kiosk you can pick the tracks YOU want on a music video or the goals YOU thought best on a sports compilation. These are opportunities for duplicators to create a different business model.

11:40  am

Copy Protection & Content Control,

Presenter

Mathew Gilliat-Smith: CEO, Fortium Technologies Ltd.

Abstract

Mathew will describe Fortium's DVD DRM software, which has been tested thoroughly by independent labs and found to be 100% compatible with players. This technology retains high levels of protection, unlike CSS, and Duplicators can offer this Copy Protection today, just by signing of a Licensing agreement, downloading of the software, then paying Fortium's per unit fees.

12:00  pm

MPEG-LA Program

Bill Geary VP of Business Development of MPEG LA.
